Volunteerism Abroad

The opportunities to improve the situation for the worldwide animal community through volunteering are as wide and as varied as the interests of the world's animal lovers. In the U.S. issues such as pet population control are tackled by large (and small) organizations that are continuing to improve the welfare of the US pet population. For smaller countries such as the Bahamas, they rely on a smaller network of animal lovers from the veterinary field worldwide.

One of these dedicated individuals is Anacapa Animal Hospital's, Patient Care Supervisor, Tracy Darling, RVT, VTS. Tracy recently volunteered her time abroad to help a small team of veterinarians and veterinary technicians curb the problem of overpopulation that plagues the Grand Bahamas. Working in conjunction with the Grand Bahamas Humane Society the group volunteered their skills at a week-long spay and neuter clinic offered to local residents. Over 250 spays and neuters were performed during the week. In addition to spay and neuter surgeries the group also performed over 10 urgently needed procedures for the unwanted dogs and cats that live in this community.

The doctors and staff at Anacapa Animal Hospital are proud of Tracy's commitment to animal welfare. Tracy's dedication to our patients and clients stems from her deep commitment to improving the lives of animals. Tracy is also a member of a National Veterinary Response Team, which is a team of veterinary professionals that are specially trained to respond to national disasters where animal care is needed.
