Pet Food Recall Info.

IMPORTANT! Pet Food Recall Linked to Acute Renal Failure in Pets:

Menu Foods, an Ontario-based company that produces pet food, distributed a press release on Saturday, March 17th indicating that it was recalling dog food sold under 46 brands and cat food sold under 37 brands including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. Menu Foods diets affected by the recall were distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico by major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway. According to CNN an unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and 10 deaths have been reported.

In addition to the Menu Foods recall, Hills Pet Food (the maker of Science Diets), Purina Pet Food, Natural Balance and Royal Canine have announced a voluntary withdraw of select diets. An additional diet was recalled today 4/23. The Blue Buffalo Company today announced a voluntary recall of one production run of its Spa Select Kitten dry food. Concerned owners should first identify if their pet has been exposed to the recalled pet food. If your pet has been exposed, we recommend you bring your pet in for an exam and routine blood test and urinalysis to identify and mitigate the effects this recall may have on their health. A blood test will allow us to evaluate how well your pet's kidneys are functioning and determine if any kidney disease is present. Signs of illness may include loss of appetite, lethargy, depression, vomiting, diarrhea, sudden changes in water consumption, or changes in the frequency or amount of urination. These signs may also occur with other illnesses.
